Builder of the world's most versatile carrier-grade and cost-effective WiMAX Forum® Certified base stations and subscriber units, Aperto Networks, announced that the company's new PacketMAX 4000 Mobile WiMAX base station has received the 2008 WiMAX Distinction Award from an integrated global media company that closely follows the WiMAX market, Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC®).

Vice President of Marketing & Alliances at Aperto, Manish Gupta, stated: "This award is another proof-point of Aperto's innovation and the extended technology leadership of the PacketMAX solution." He added: "PacketMAX 4000 is unique in the industry in its unprecedented versatility in such a small footprint. This IEEE 802.16e-2005 compliant base station is receiving extremely positive response from our customers and ecosystem partners."

PacketMAX 4000, by minimizing capital commitment per site, enables service providers to offer fixed, portable, and mobile broadband services and achieve profitability in a short period of time. The system, at the same time, is highly scalable and can grow according to network coverage and capacity needs. It operates in wide array of 2.x GHz and 3.x GHz bands and supports multiple channel widths in compliance with the WiMAX Forum Wave-2 defined profiles. PacketMAX 4000 incorporates the carrier-grade features synonymous with the PacketMAX brand. Including power, backhaul, and radios, it supports redundancy of all major subsystems. PacketMAX 4000 plays a central role in enabling end-to-end Mobile WiMAX solutions that include best-of-breed subscriber units, base stations, ASN gateways, and CSN platforms--all pre-validated and pre-integrated to exploit the industry-leading features of PacketMAX.

The 2008 WiMAX Distinction Awards have been granted to companies who were able to demonstrate a commitment to innovation in the WiMAX space. Winners were chosen by members of the TMC editorial staff based on exemplary products and services developed and deployed in the past year, based on case studies provided by entrants.

The PacketMAX family of products delivers the critical elements required to extend wireless broadband services to a wide range of users-ranging from governments, large enterprises and public-sector organizations to multi-tenant buildings and residences-using a single, standards-based platform.
