ACT/Technico, the supplier of embedded products and systems solutions built with CompactPCI, VMEbus, and other open architecture platforms, now offers a SATA-based mass storage PMC that simplifies data storage requirements while incorporating advanced serial storage technology for increased data transfer rates. The cost-effective RoHS-compliant SATA PMCDisk replaces hard drives and disk modules that require external fixtures or system slots.

For applications requiring moderate data storage, the SATA PMCDisk eliminates the need for SCSI-based
storage while offering improved data transfer rates. The module can be used as a boot device as well. Available with either rotating or solid state flash SATA drives, the SATA PMCDisk can be used on any CompactPCI, VMEbus or VXS single board computer or carrier with a standard PMC slot, making the module ideal for a wide variety of commercial embedded systems in such industries as telecom, medical and industrial.

The SATA PMCDisk provides embedded system designers with cost-effective, flexible storage options.
The 2.5" hard disk comes in storage sizes from 40 GB to 250 GB and the 2.5" flash drive is available up to 128 GB. The PMCDisk is intended to be a boot device and/or a data storage device for embedded computing systems which utilize the PMC form factor.

Extended temperature versions are also available for more rugged environments, such as airborne and rugged ground applications.
The module ships completely assembled and tested with a 2.5" drive (rotating or solid state Flash) and software drivers for VxWorks, Linux, Solaris or Windows. The SATA PMCDisk also features two universal I/O voltage keying holes for 3.3V and 5.0V operation. Pricing for a SATA PMCDisk starts at $ 800 with rotating storage. Delivery is six weeks ARO.

PMCDisk Features:

    - ATA/IDE mass storage solution implemented using the industry standard PMC form factor (IEEE P1386.1)
    - Can be used on any Single Board Computer with a PMC slot
    - Uses a 9.5 mm high 2½” ATA/IDE hard disk or a solid state 2½” IDE Flash disk
    - ATA disks available in Enhanced Duty cycle versions for NEBS Level 3 7/24 requirements
    - 3.3 V power not required; 5V tolerant signaling
    - Supports several operating systems including Solaris, VxWorks, Linux, and Windows
    - Open Boot Module supported to allow the PMCDisk to boot on any PCI-compliant SPARC platform
