Apple iPhone Can Use Microsoft Fonts, Solution Provided By Ascender Corp.

    Ascender Corporation, a provider of advanced font products for hardware & software developers, announced that the Microsoft fonts which Microsoft has recently announced as being licensed to Apple are available from Ascender for licensing to other software and  hardware companies, and also directly to end users. Microsoft and Ascender have an agreement which enables Ascender to offer Microsoft's extensive font library, which includes multilingual fonts and fonts tuned for on-screen display and high resolution printing.

    These fonts include Arial, Courier New, Georgia, Times New Roman, Trebuchet and Verdana
- fonts which can be found in the Apple iPhone and other Apple products. The Microsoft fonts can be integrated into a web browser on any device or operating system to offer the best user experience.

    "Apple's use of Microsoft's fonts in the iPhone ensures that web pages can be viewed as they were intended and as they appear
in desktop environments," said Steve Kuhlman, Vice President. "Ascender is proud to offer such an important set of fonts to end users, enterprises, and hardware & software developers as they enable the best web browsing experience. We are also happy to be able to offer the new ClearType fonts to Mac OS X users who want the same fonts as found in Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 for document compatibility."

    This agreement makes these fonts more broadly available for license in any operating system by individuals
, graphic designers and businesses. Fonts in the ClearType collection include Calibri, Cambria, Candara, Consolas, Constantia and Corbel. Additionally, Ascender entered into an agreement with Microsoft which enables Ascender to distribute the Microsoft ClearType Font Collection directly to end users. The 24 fonts in the collection are featured in Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007.
