Braking Light Efficacy From LUXIM  » read source
LUXIM Corp. announced that it has achieved 144 lumens per watt for its new LIFI 8000 light source. Dr. Abdeslam Hafidi, Sr. Staff Scientist at LUXIM stated: “Over the last 3 years we have tripled the efficacy of LIFI sources and we see a clear path to further improvements. As things stand today, our 144 lumens per watt is almost twice the efficacy of other commercially available full spectrum sources.”

The performance was verified by SphereOptics of Concord, New Hampshire using NIST traceable
calibration samples and a 20 inch integrating sphere. The LIFI 8000 source was powered at 170 Watts and generated 24,537 lumens of white light at a color temperature of 6012K. LUXIM LIFI brings intense, long life light output for projection display.  In addition, the complete spectrum generates vivid image quality.

The result confirms LUXIM’s leadership in the development of long life, high lumen output light sources
for general and specialty lighting. Customers will see this performance in commercially available products within twelve months. Lighting currently consumes almost a quarter of the world’s generated power, amounting to about 1 trillion kilowatt hours and generating over 700 million tons of carbon dioxide.

Recognizing the issue, the United Nations Convention on Climate Change has called for strengthening the
development and dissemination of lighting technologies effective in reducing emissions while promoting economic growth. LIFI brings the benefits of long-life, energy efficiency and complete color spectrum to lighting applications like general and specialty lighting and projection displays like wide screen HDTVs and projectors.

“On top of luminous efficacy, LIFI sources have the advantage of being compact and directional,”
continues Dr. Hafidi. “As such, they enable energy efficient and space saving fixtures for high light output applications like street, event and architectural lighting. The efficiency benefit in fixture design alone could be as much as 15-20% for outdoor applications.”

“Efficiency, reliability and color quality are priorities for general lighting over the next two decades,”
said Tony McGettigan, LUXIM’s CEO. “LIFI 8000’s efficacy brings power savings and environmental benefits to our customers while maintaining the color quality and reliability advantages they expect from LIFI.”
