Free Unified Communications Extended by Unison to Ubuntu  » read source
The world's first free enterprise software, Unison™ unified communications, has released a Linux version of its software in addition to the Windows version. Unison Desktop for Ubuntu, now out of beta, will challenge Microsoft's Outlook/Exchange and communications franchise with a more powerful - yet free - alternative. In addition to the existing version for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and CentOS, Unison Technologies also released a production version of Unison Server for Ubuntu.

Unison for Ubuntu gives millions of SMBs worldwide the option of a 'Microsoft-free desktop' because it combines all communication - telephone, voicemail, e-mail, IM and more - into a single server and desktop client.

CMO of Unison Technologies, Rurik Bradbury, stated: "We are excited to expand unified communications to Ubuntu users at zero cost." He adds: "Instead of deploying the Windows version of Unison Desktop, companies can run the client on Ubuntu, which is just as powerful, yet far less costly than overpriced traditional software such as Microsoft Windows and Outlook."

Unison is a complete replacement for both PBX systems and legacy e-mail servers like Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino. Together with a messaging server, Unison Server integrates a powerful IP-PBX system. This allows it to power e-mail, instant messaging and real-time presence (free/busy status) alongside telephony, with connections to IP telephones, desktop softphones, mobile devices and traditional telephone lines - all from a single system.
