The addition of the Vector 300GWP to its Prolificx Vector 300 range of vehicle tracking devices has been announced by Imarda, fleet tracking solutions company. The Prolificx Vector 300 range, a fully programmable, field-proven, hardware platform, is targeted towards Telematics and M2M application developers.
The Vector 300GWP vehicle tracking device adds WiFi and PLC4Trucks interfaces to the standard Vector 300 series feature set, which already supports GPS, GPRS, CAN, J1708, J1939, Bluetooth and other interfaces.
According to Selwyn Pellett, Imarda CEO, the Vector 300GWP has been developed to meet the fleet tracking needs of truck-load and less-than-truckload where trailer tracking is a key requirement. Pellett said: "The inbuilt PLC4trucks interface provides the ability to monitor trailer hook and drops when used in conjunction with a PLC4Trucks compatible Tag fitted to the trailer." He continued: "The PLC4Trucks interface is supported with a full C++.NET API which implements trailer monitoring using Imarda or third party supplied Trailer Tags."
The addition of the WiFi interface enables the cost effective transfer of data from the vehicle's device to a server when the vehicle is within range of an authorised WiFi network. Selwyn Pellett declared: "WiFi is a low-cost method of exchanging data that is not time critical (such as log files and engine diagnostics) or for performing over-the-air software updates which would typically not be sent over the GPRS network for cost reasons."
Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne, has spent the last several months successfully completing a series of hot-fire tests on heritage J-2 rocket engine components that are the basis for the new J-2X rocket engine. The J-2X will power the nation's new Ares I and Ares V launch vehicles scheduled to send astronauts to the International Space Station and return them to the moon by 2020. These initial tests of hardware designated Powerpack 1-A, is providing valuable data to engine designers and paving the way for longer, full power hot-fire tests of actual J-2X engine hardware.
