Linksys WVC54GCA - Wireless-G Internet Home Monitoring Camera With Audio Support  » read source
Linksys, announced the latest addition to its Home Control family of products, the Linksys Wireless-G Internet Home Monitoring Camera with Audio - WVC54GCA. Its unique form-factor and wireless connectivity allows the Internet Home Monitoring Camera to be mounted on a wall nearly anywhere, or slip it into its included stand for desktop use. The WVC54GCA is available now through select Linksys e-commerce resellers, with product scheduled for select retail availability in a few weeks. The Estimated Street Price is $119.99.

Once connected to the home network, users can "see what it sees" from any PC in the house,
while the video stream is secured from the outside world, hidden behind the Router. To view the video from outside the home network, it is possible to open an appropriate port on the Router, and then create password protected accounts to manage access to the camera, or leave it wide open for the world to see.

Unlike standard "web cams" that require an attached PC, the Internet Home Monitoring Camera
is designed to contain its own web server, so it can connect to a network, either over wireless-G (802.11g) networking, or over 10/100 Ethernet cable. The WVC54GCA is also designed to offer high-quality, high-framerate, up to 640x480 video stream by choosing either a MPEG-4 or Motion JPEG video compression. The Linksys Wireless-G Internet Home Monitoring Camera sends live video through the Internet to a web browser anywhere in the world! This compact, self-contained unit lets you keep track of your home, your kids, your workplace - whatever's important to you.

Mani Dhillon, director of product marketing, Linksys Consumer Business Organization commented:
"Leaving the home empty while away is always somewhat of a concern for families but the Linksys Internet Home Monitoring Camera provides consumers with an advanced home control solution to keep track of your home or your workplace, from virtually anywhere in the world."

The Security Mode tells the camera to send a message with a short video attached to up to three email addresses
whenever it detects motion in its field of view. It is then possible to log onto the live video stream if the situation warrants and record the audio/video stream to the local hard drive through the Viewer & Recorder utility, "live" or on a predetermined schedule.

Would not connect

Bought from Circuit City, cam would connect to our wireless network but then could not ping it or connect to it. Tech support had me upgrade firmware, this did not help, they said sorry, please take it back to the store. Maybe it only works with Linksys routers (we have Netgear)?

i've bought it from gernoonlineshop.de - and they still have them in stock. i just do not recommend this shop, since they do not answer any emails and the order tracking seems to not work as expected. i have the same problem with wireless - i have to unplug/plug the power cable several times until it finds a wireless connection.
