Metroid: Other M

The game takes place between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. Other M opens with a cinematic showing the final battle with Mother Brain at the conclusion of Super Metroid. After escaping the exploding Planet Zebes, Samus Aran awakens on a Galactic Federation ship. After leaving, she receives a distress signal, commonly coded as "Baby's Cry", from a dormant "Bottle Ship", which is floating a short distance away from a Federation vessel. Upon stepping into the ship, Samus encounters a group of GF soldiers, known as the Galactic Federation 07th Platoon, led by Anthony Higgs, who fought alongside her before she left the GF military. She also meets Adam Malkovich, who used to be her commanding officer when she was in the Federation Army. Adam treats her very coldly since she left the army in the past, calling Samus an "outsider", ordering his team not to reveal any details of their mission to her. However, he accepts her after she defeats a large, purple tentacle-monster and from then on he starts authorizing different items for Samus to use, at the cost of her completely obeying his orders. Adam also assigns the 07th Platoon to go on solo searches to investigate the Bottle Ship.

As the plot progresses, Samus encounters Madeline, who is hiding from her family, and tries to convince her that she was here to rescue her. Samus also learns that soldiers of the 07th Platoon had died within the Bottle Ship, including a traitor, known later as "the Deleter". Later at the Pyrosphere, Samus encountered Ridley, but Anthony Higgs saves her and Ridley seemingly kills Anthony by knocking him off the ledge. Leaving through the Biosphere, Samus journeys to Sector Zero where she also spots Adam, who has decided to detach and destroy the sector along with himself. She then spots another red-haired woman who identifies herself as Madeline Bergman as well, leading Samus in confusion, but Madeline explains that the woman she met was MB, an android that was reincarnated from Mother Brain and used to control special forces modeled after the Space Pirates. Later, Madeline attempts to talk to MB, who insists that everyone must be judged. She attacks Madeline, and is subsequently frozen by a group of Federation Marines, but MB quickly thaws off and becomes enraged, summoning the most dangerous creatures on the ship into the room. Madeline grabs a Freeze Gun and fires it at MB. On the orders of a Colonel, the soldiers quickly take advantage of the situation and shoot MB to death. The Colonel approaches Samus and states that since the rest of the platoon members are dead, she is not allowed contact with Madeline. He orders one of the soldiers to escort her back to her Gunship, but turns out to be Anthony Higgs, who states that his orders, under the chairman of the Galactic Federation, are to ensure the safety of any survivors. Madeline, Samus and Anthony leave the Bottle Ship in Samus' gunship for Galactic Federation Headquarters.
