Metrologic, Inc. announced the worldwide release of its SP5700 OptimusPDA mobile device which incorporates a Microsoft Windows-based platform, bar code scanning and advanced wireless technologies into a lightweight and durable device. By supporting access to wireless standards with faster download speeds and higher bandwidth, the OptimusPDA provides a versatile solution for increasing productivity and responsiveness in mobile applications associated with retail and supply chain, field service, health care, parcel delivery, and transportation.
Metrologic initially released the device in Europe in March 2007 and a few months later in Asia. Lighter than most mobile computers, but just as powerful, the OptimusPDA can be equipped with a variety of options, including a choice of either a Metrologic laser or high-resolution imaging scan engine, data-transfer options, and a two-mega-pixel camera. Metrologic also provides users with a software development kit (SDK) for creating custom software applications on Microsoft's proven Windows CE 5.0 platform.
WiFi-Protected Access security measures engineered directly into the mobile computer's firmware ensures information remains confidential. The SP5700 OptimusPDA provides mobile professionals with a versatile solution for increased productivity in applications throughout the retail supply chain, professional services, transportation and healthcare. Lighter than most mobile computers, but just as powerful, OptimusPDA can be equipped with a variety of features, including a choice of data capture options, advanced wireless technologies, and a full range of accessories.
"The OptimusPDA signifies Metrologic's entry into the Windows-based mobile computing marketplace," said Mark Schmidt, Metrologic's vice president of product management and marketing. "For mobile workers responsible for collecting data in the field, the OptimusPDA eliminates the added expense and aggravation of having to purchase and carry around separate devices like a mobile phone, a PDA, a bar code scanner and a digital camera."
With an IP54rating and 1.5-meter drop specification onto concrete, the SP5700 easily withstands the rigors of daily use and wear, making it the ideal all-day, everyday companion for the mobile worker. Metrologic further lowers the total cost of ownership by packaging the OptimusPDA in all-inclusive kits which include the essential accessories necessary for operation right out of the box. This IP54-rated mobile computer resists exposure to dust, splashing water and extreme temperatures. The OptimusPDA is also tough enough to withstand repeated 1.5-meter falls onto concrete.
