New RRU For WiMAX From Comba  » read source

Comba Telecom Systems delivers the infrastructure and solutions to mobile operators and enterprises to enhance and extend their wireless communications networks since 1997. As one of the major suppliers of wireless solutions, the company was awarded “Business Superbrand” in 2006.

The company has officially announced its new WiMAX-compatible remote radio unit (RRU) to the global market. The RRU is a highly integrated base station RF unit which can be removed from the BBU (Base Band Unit) and fed with baseband signals through optical fiber. Its high power efficiency design and flexible configuration significantly lowers CAPEX and boost deployment time for WiMAX network rollout.

Comba's RRU is designed for easy customization for different BBU suppliers in order to speed up integration. The RRU supports point-to-point, star and daisy-chained connection with the BBU to offer an adjustable system topology.

Additionally, it's compact, IP65 weatherproof and convection cooling design enables it to function in different environments from tower tops to underground tunnels. These flexible and scalable design features minimize the feeder cable demands for base station systems and moderates the challenges network operators face in site acquisition and power supply problems.

"We are pleased to bring this latest innovation to the market. The RRU addresses two very important issues of the WiMAX space: speed to market and cost effectiveness", declared Mr. John Cheng, Comba's Director of Product Marketing, Wireless Enhancement, adding "We are committed to helping our business partners and customers to realize effective returns on their network investments. Comba is actively researching and developing products for current and developing standards such as UMTS, WiMAX and LTE. The WiMAX RRU is the latest addition to Comba's RRU technology which includes solutions for WCDMA, CDMA2000 and TD- SCDMA."

Some key WiMAX RRU features incorporated in the unit are digital optical interface compliance with OBSAI RP3-01 v4.0 or CPRI v3.0, customizable for third party BBUs, Independent RF channels (TRx) support various multi-antenna architecture: 2x2 MIMO, 4x4 MIMO, 4x4 AAS, RF performance exceeds specifications defined in the "WiMAX Forum System Profile", built-in self-diagnostic, protection, alarm & error report functions, it operates in 2.3-2.7GHz supporting variable channel bandwidths, etc.
