A digital content delivery platform offered by BIA Information Network (BIN), ActiveAccess, has launched a free desktop application that continuously provides local weather, entertainment, health, sports news, headline stories, breaking news, traffic, and other content directly onto laptop and desktop computers, called NewsView. By delivering news feeds directly to the computer desktop through web links and a robust RSS reader, NewsView eliminates the need to rely solely on websites or email for news. It is the first of several consumer applications being developed by BIN to make content more accessible to end users. Via video and text feeds, NewsView provides users news and information on politics, health, business, entertainment, sports, science, and technology. To include additional news feeds of choice, the application also includes an RSS reader that can be customized by the user. Depending on user's settings, NewsView also has the ability to send emergency weather alerts, breaking news, and headline news via a crawler and audible notification.
Through an innovative provider of licensed content from more than 200 news sources, including the TV Guide, The New York Times, Reuters, MTV, CBS, Associated Press, NBA, The Wall Street Journal, and the National Hockey League, BIN's partner Voxant, News and content is provided to NewsView. Other NewsView partners include the National Weather Service for local weather and national weather and Traffic.com for local city traffic.
CEO of Voxant, Marcien Jenckes, said: “Voxant is pleased to provide its content through NewsView's unique desktop application”.
