ViXS Systems Inc., a leading developer of video processing solutions, announced a low-cost, feature-rich digital terrestrial TV tuner card reference design for the rapidly growing GB20600-2006 market in China. ViXS' design will allow users to inexpensively and easily capture, display and record High-Definition TV broadcast television programs on their PC or laptop.
In cooperation with Tsinghua University, Legend Silicon has developed GB20600-2006 as a standard which has been adopted by China as the foundation for all Digital Terrestrial TV Broadcast (DTTB). Amongst its many benefits, the GB20600-2006 provides high-quality broadcast television to indoor, fixed, portable and mobile TV clients. The ViXS XCode 2100 Series Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) will provide advanced video processing features such as flexible interconnectivity, bitrate reduction, transcoding, DRM and other security features - all in a low-cost ASIC.
"ViXS' significant market share in the PC tuner card market in Japan and North America, as well as their cost-effective platform and future-proofed feature set, is exactly what we were looking for from a partner," stated Dr. Lin Yang, Co-founder, Chairman of the Board, and Chief Technology Officer of Legend Silicon.
Legend Silicon has been actively involved in the development of the China Digital Television Terrestrial Broadcasting System Standard and helped develop the core technology for the standard. The company established the joint Digital TV Technology Research Center with Tsinghua University in 2000. There a new advanced modulation technology¨CTDS-OFDM C was developed. Using TDS-OFDM, Tsinghua University and Legend Silicon patented and brought to market a new terrestrial DTV broadcasting protocol, called DMB-T. ViXS products, solutions and technology will be on display at CES 2008 from January 7 to 10, 2008 in Booth 36163 of South Hall 4 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
"ViXS is thrilled to work with Legend Silicon in the development of this important product for the Chinese market. Chinese viewers have long been waiting for a quick and easy way to capture and record digital perfect video onto their PCs, and as we approach the Beijing Olympics the demand for recording HD broadcast will rapidly increase," commented Sally Daub, President and CEO of ViXS Systems.
The China Digital Television Terrestrial Broadcasting System Standard was approved and standardized as GB20600-2006 Standard by SAC on August 18, 2006 and was deplayed across China beginning August 1, 2007. It has resulted in the emergence of a huge DTV market in China and substantial opportunity for Legend Silicon.
The company’s potential has been recognized by investors all over the world, attracting investments from the likes of Intel, Mobile Internet, Motorola, Shanghai Industrial, Softbank, Tsinghua Leaguer, Tsinghua Tongfang and others. Legend Silicon continues to work closely with Tsinghua University on joint research to develop broadband wireless broadcasting and communications technologies.
