Worldwide Porn Market estimated at $97 billlion  » read source
A leading review site of entertainment and technology, announced today their updated stats on the porn industry, as part of their 2007 Internet filter software review. Worldwide incomes for the porn industry in 2006 were at least $97 billion, with incomes in the U.S. being the fourth highest among all countries at $13.3 billion. Porn incomes in China were the highest for 2006 at $27.4 billion with South Korea at $25.7 billion and Japan at $20 billion.

Every second $3,075.64 is spent on pornography, 28,258 Internet users view pornography and 372 Internet users type adult search terms into search engines.

The income numbers worldwide are actually higher, but documentation for countries outside the top 20 is almost impossible to find. Previous numbers establish worldwide revenues for porn at $57 billion for 2003. The worldwide incomes of the porn industry are higher today than the incomes of the top technology companies combined – Microsoft, Google, Amazon, eBay, Yahoo!, Apple, Netflix and EarthLink.

“These statistics are the most accurate and complete report of the worldwide pornography industry to date,” said CEO of the review site. “The revenue numbers worldwide are actually higher, but finding documentation for countries outside the top 20 is almost impossible.”

For this report of the worldwide porn industry, more than 10,000 sources were researched, including Web sites and stats, eports from international media, from the porn industry and from anti-porn organizations.

Internet Search Statistics

The report reveals 20 search keywords related to the pornography industry. Between 2005 and 2006, searches for the terms “adult dating”, “sex ads” and “adult sex” increased the most, growing by 622%, 382% and 301% respectively. The most searched term, “sex”, was searched more than 75 million times in 2006, an increase of 7% compared to 2005.

Searches for terms like “porn”, “free porn”, “cyber sex”, “playboy” and “nude” slightly decreased in 2006, but none of these terms went down more than 26% compared to 2005.

Men seem the majority to have searched for terms like “porn”, “free porn”, “playboy” and “teen porn” in 2006 with a percentage of 96%, 97%, 86% and 82%, respectively.

Women searched more frequently for terms like “adult dating” and “adult sex” with searches for these terms both at 64%.

The Top Producing Countries In Video Porn

The United States is the top video porn producing country, followed by Brazil, The Netherlands, Spain and Japan. Within the United States, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, Chicago and San Francisco are the most notable cities within the porn industry.

Porn Web Sites by Country

The United States has produced most of the pornographic Web sites on the Internet with more than 244 million sites with pornographic material. Germany is second with 10 million pornographic sites, followed by the United Kingdom with 8.5 million and Australia with 5.6 million.

Income Demografic Statistics of Porn Users on the Web

Most Internet viewers of porn tend to be those with higher incomes. In fact, most – 35% – of the viewers of pornography on the Web earn $75,000 per year or more. The next highest segment – at almost 26% – earn $50,000 to $75,000 per year in income. The lowest group of Internet viewers of pornography – 6% – earn incomes of less than $15,000.
