PRTG Network Monitor Gets an Upgrade » read source
An upgrade to its PRTG Network Monitor 7.0.9 that is intended to help IT systems and network administrators and the enterprises they serve keep their eyes on the virtualization prize - literally has been announced by Paessler A.G.
'Virtualization' will be one of the top IT themes for the upcoming year with the tough economy likely to continue in 2009. Infrastructures can be consolidated and sometimes even entire data centres can be economized via virtualization. The costs for energy can be reduced significantly at the same time. CEO and founder of Paessler, Dirk Paessler, declared: "A precondition for a successful virtualization is the undisturbed operating of the consolidated host servers and network- and storage-infrastructure to assure the maximum availability of the virtual servers." He added: "The use of a qualified network monitoring solution like PRTG Network Monitor is an important step to make critical areas transparent and keep them permanently in sight. Additionally this system delivers valuable information for planning and executing virtualization measures."
Essential information for planning and testing of virtualized environments is delivered by network monitoring. Using a solution such as PRTG Network Monitor offers valuable clues to expected long time demands of different enterprise applications. Furthermore, long term trends allow forecasts of expected performance peaks - precondition for adequate resource planning.
IT systems and network administrators can react immediately and clear problems in case of failures and disturbance. Weak spots can be discovered and the general performance of the network can be improved via analysis of long term monitoring data.
PRTG Network Monitor was expanded in the current version for two special VMware-sensors: 'VMware Server Host' and 'VMware Virtual Machine'. Thus PRTG not only enables the monitoring of virtualized applications rather than servers but also the monitoring of the proper VMware-server. ...
