Seneca Data will be an Intel first-to-market provider of custom notebooks based on the new mobile platform for custom systems makers announced at the Intel Solutions Summit in Las Vegas, Intel's Rich Creek 2 platform.Rich Creek 2 features an expanded set of standards-based components for building custom notebooks. These include mobile boards and enclosures, as well as batteries, displays, keyboards, optical drives, hard disk drives and more. Build to order notebooks, previously, were preconfigured with a basic shell consisting of the display and motherboard. Providing the same type of parts interchangeability available in the desktop market, Rich Creek 2 enables Seneca Data to offer resellers and their notebook customers a more flexible set of component choices. Industry experts say, that with notebooks now out shipping desktop computers in many areas of the world, a completely customized notebook combined with local service and support represents one of the most important new market opportunities for the channel in 2008.
Seneca Data Vice President of Product Development and Marketing, Steve Maser, said:
"With Rich Creek 2, this is the first time the VAR community will have a top-to-bottom customizable notebook including a choice of mobile boards and shell designs". "These systems are also designed to facilitate easy access to the LCD, motherboard, and other key components; so they are more easily serviced on location by the reseller," Maser said.
Seneca Data is demonstrating at the Intel Solutions Summit a pre-production sample notebook based on the new Intel platform, and will be one among the first Rich Creek 2 providers.
