System76 Unveils Pre-Installed Servers Featuring Ubuntu 7.10 Server Edition

System76 Inc., a provider of Ubuntu pre-installed laptops and desktops, introduces the first available line of certified, pre-installed servers featuring Ubuntu 7.10 Server Edition - delivering a new choice in quality server platforms. "The availability of 9 to 5 or 24/7 Canonical support extends our server line to those businesses requiring robust support for their mission critical applications," stated  Carl Richell, President of System76.

Ubuntu 7.10 availability on System76 servers fulfills a broad range of data center needs including email, file and print services,
virtualization, and customer relationship management. The pedestal or rackmount servers feature Quad Core Intel XEON Processors, up to 8 TB of storage, and up to 32 GB of memory.

Certification of System76 servers is an official endorsement by the Ubuntu project,
backed by a validation and testing process conducted by Canonical to ensure compatibility with Ubuntu. Canonical provides assurance against regressions in support.

Nobody understands Ubuntu better than Canonical. Canonical is the commercial sponsor of the project and we directly employ
many of the leading developers of the distribution. So if you or your company is serious about deploying Ubuntu on the server or the desktop then you need to engage with Canonical's support team. It's the reassurance and back-up that real projects need.

"From the beginning, System76 has been at the vanguard of making Ubuntu available on rock-solid,
certified hardware, first with laptops and desktops, and now with servers," commented Jane Silber, chief operating officer of Canonical. "This announcement attests to our partnership, to the increasing demand from partners and customers for the Ubuntu 7.10 Server Edition, and to the fact that Ubuntu is ready for the enterprise."

As your business grows, so does your network. More applications need to be deployed and more servers are required.
Ubuntu Server Edition offers support for several common configurations, and simplifies common Linux server deployment processes. It provides a well-integrated platform enabling you to quickly and easily deploy a new server with any of the standard internet services: mail, web, DNS, file serving or database management.

Trashware Microsoft's CodePlex Open Source
There's a reason why you were able to quickly think of the real open-source programs and you probably haven't got a clue as to what Microsoft is doing. It's because while Microsoft is trying to at least pretend to be a friend to open source and the boys from Redmond are even trying to get the Open Source Initiative for review and approve two new open-source licenses they don't produce any significant open-source software. Think of some of the most popular open-source programs. I'll bet you thought of at least one of these: Linux, Firefox, Thunderbird and Apache. Now, name some of Microsoft's most active open-source projects.
