Requiring no registration to participate, Addoursearch.com is a completely free, hosted service. Form with their site information, users simply fill out a quick online after which they are presented with a small snippet of code. Similar to popular bookmark and RSS buttons commonly found on many web sites and blogs, when this code snippet is installed in a web page, it generates a small image or "badge".

Founder and Developer of Addoursearch.com, Troy Peterson, declared: "We started Addoursearch.com as a solution to a problem". "Creating and installing your own browser search plugin has been around for a while. However, creating one requires a certain level of technical knowledge and server access that not all site owners possess. Addoursearch.com simplifies the process of creating, displaying, and installing a browser search plugin into your visitor's browser".

Troy Peterson added: "We also felt that this has been a largely untapped marketing channel with great potential". He concuded: "By adding the ability for your visitors to search your site directly from their browser, you're providing them with a quick and easy way to access your content and find what they're looking for. It's persistent, so it's stored in the browser until they explicitly delete it and it's free... Now that's a powerful marketing tool."

Including phpBB, vBulletin, Drupal, Wordpress, and TypePad to name a few, Addoursearch.com has been tested and is compatible with the most popular hosted and downloadable forum, blog, and content management software titles. As well as custom search implementations, Addoursearch.com is also compatible with most SaaS (Software as a Service) search solutions such as Yahoo!'s Search Builder and Google Coop.

At http://www.addoursearch.com/howitworks they have also prepared a demonstration video on how the service works. Addoursearch.com uses the most up-to-date OpenSearch specifications provided by Amazon's A9.com, Inc. and made available through a Creative Commons License.
